GitLab is where teams manage source code, merge requests, CI/CD pipelines, issues, and deployments. When you need to check pipeline status, review open MRs, create an issue, or browse a repo's file tree, you switch to the GitLab web UI, navigate between projects, click through tabs, then switch back.
With an MCP server pointed at GitLab, AI agents can interact with your GitLab instance directly. Check pipeline status, browse code, create MRs, triage issues without leaving your terminal.
Once connected, Claude, Cursor, or Windsurf can:
You're browsing the GitLab web interface normally. DataFaucet captures HTTP interactions from the UI and converts them into callable MCP tools. Your GitLab session credentials stay in your browser.
"What's the status of the pipeline on the feature/auth branch?"
"List open merge requests assigned to me"
"Create an issue titled 'Fix: timeout on /api/checkout' with priority label"
"Show me the latest failed job logs"
"What files changed in MR !567?"Already have a GitHub MCP server? GitLab instances are common in enterprise environments or as self-hosted alternatives. Many teams run both. DataFaucet works with GitLab.com and self-managed GitLab instances — same scan-and-deploy workflow.
DataFaucet connects through the GitLab web UI. Access is scoped to whatever your GitLab account permissions allow. If you have maintainer access, agents can create MRs. If you have read-only access, agents can only browse. No personal access tokens stored separately.
Open your GitLab instance in your browser. Copy the URL. Paste it into DataFaucet, browse through projects, merge requests, and pipelines. Deploy. Your agents can now interact with GitLab from your terminal.
